Experience & practice

Not every legal matter needs a courtroom, and not every car accident needs a specialist in catastrophic injury litigation. What most people actually need is a lawyer who will handle their claim carefully, explain things in plain terms, and get it resolved without unnecessary complication. That's the bulk of what I do for The Longhorn Law Firm's Texas clients — straightforward car accident claims handled with real attention, not rushed through a settlement mill.

Outside of personal injury, I maintain a broader general practice through Barnett & Leuty, PC — business law, contract drafting and interpretation, and wills, estate planning, and probate matters. Many clients who come to me for one thing end up staying for another; a family dealing with a car accident today may need a will drafted next year, or a small business owner referred for a contract dispute may later need help after a fender-bender. Having one attorney who can handle both keeps things simple.

Working alongside Shawn Barnett in New Mexico gives our clients two attorneys with different strengths and geographic reach — but the same approach to client service.

A practical approach to everyday legal needs

Most car accidents don't require years of catastrophic-injury litigation experience to resolve well — they require someone who returns calls, explains the process clearly, negotiates fairly with the insurance company, and doesn't let a claim drag on longer than it needs to. That's the standard I hold myself to on every case that comes through The Longhorn Law Firm's Texas referrals.

The same practical mindset carries over to my general practice work. Business owners need contracts they can actually understand, not documents written to be impressive. Families planning for the future need a will that reflects what they actually want, explained without jargon. And families going through probate need someone who will walk them through an unfamiliar process during an already difficult time.

For personal injury matters that turn out to be more complex than they first appeared — significant injuries, disputed liability, or a case that may need to go further than a straightforward settlement — I coordinate directly with Shawn and the rest of the firm to make sure the case gets the right level of attention.

What I handle

My practice covers a mix of personal injury work for The Longhorn Law Firm and general practice matters through Barnett & Leuty, PC:

Car accidents

Rear-end collisions, intersection accidents, and other more routine car accident claims — handled carefully from intake through resolution, with clear communication throughout and no unnecessary complication.

Business law

General business counsel for Texas business owners — entity formation, business agreements, and day-to-day legal questions that come up in running a company.

Contract drafting & interpretation

Drafting contracts that are clear and enforceable, and reviewing or interpreting existing agreements when a dispute or question arises.

Wills, estate planning & probate

Helping individuals and families plan for the future with a properly drafted will, and guiding families through the probate process when a loved one has passed.
