Real advocacy means showing up for people long before they ever need a lawyer. This page is about the work we do outside the courtroom — and the communities we're proud to call home.
At The Longhorn Law Firm, our mission has always been rooted in building stronger, healthier, and more connected communities throughout Texas and New Mexico. We believe that real advocacy means showing up for people long before they ever need a lawyer — through youth mentorship, wellness initiatives, nonprofit outreach, and community-driven events that touch lives in ways that don't always make it into a case file.
This firm was built on a simple idea: leadership is earned through action. The same passion, discipline, and commitment we bring to our cases should also be reflected in the way we serve others outside the office. That's how trust is built — by the work people see us doing when no one is hiring us.
Here are some of the organizations and initiatives that define who we are.
Running Down a Dream is a Texas-based nonprofit organization founded by Shawn Barnett with a simple conviction: discipline, confidence, and the long-term habits that shape a life can be built one mile at a time. For too many young athletes, the obstacles to that path aren't talent or grit — they're access. A pair of shoes. A coach who believes in them. A community that shows up at the finish line.
The organization helps fill that gap. Through running shoes, health education, race training, mentorship opportunities, and wellness resources, Running Down a Dream invests directly in students and young athletes who may not otherwise have access to them. The work happens through weekly training runs, community races, and youth outreach initiatives that meet kids where they are — and walk alongside them toward where they want to go.
The impact compounds quietly. A kid who learns to push through a hard mile learns something he or she can use in the classroom, in relationships, and decades later in a job they haven't yet imagined. Running teaches what running teaches: that the next step is always possible, even when it doesn't feel like it. That lesson belongs to every kid — not just the ones whose families can afford race fees and team gear.
What started as a small local run club has grown into one of the largest and most active running communities in San Antonio, bringing together hundreds of runners, walkers, athletes, and community members each week. Founded by Shawn Barnett, Dreamers Run Club was built on the belief that an inclusive environment — where every fitness level is welcomed, every pace is respected, and every face is remembered — produces something rare in a city this size: real community.
The club is about more than miles. It's about accountability when life gets hard, positivity that travels home with you, wellness that includes mental health alongside physical, and connection in a world that increasingly substitutes screens for people. Runners show up to train, but they leave with relationships — with mentors, training partners, friends, business connections, and people who notice when they haven't been around in a while.
Dreamers Run Club partners regularly with local businesses, wellness organizations, fitness brands, and nonprofit initiatives across Texas. Those partnerships fund youth programs, support local causes, and put the club's energy behind work that needs visibility. When a community shows up to run, it shows up for everything else too.
Dreamwell was created as a natural extension of the wellness-focused mission behind Dreamers Run Club. While runs build the foundation, Dreamwell builds the bigger picture: movement, recovery, mindfulness, fitness, and community engagement woven into experiences that encourage healthier lifestyles and stronger human connection.
Dreamwell events look different than typical fitness gatherings. There are fitness classes for every level, recovery stations where athletes and weekend warriors alike can take care of their bodies, cold plunges and saunas that ask people to push through brief discomfort for lasting benefit, wellness vendors and local partners who care about the same things we do, and educational resources focused on the physical and mental health practices that turn a good day into a good year.
At The Longhorn Law Firm, we believe wellness, resilience, and recovery are deeply connected — both inside and outside the legal world. The clients we serve are often dealing with the aftermath of physical injury and the chronic pain, anxiety, and disrupted sleep that follow. We know firsthand that recovery is not just medical. It's communal. It's about the people who show up alongside you when life is hard — and the small daily practices that compound into healing. Dreamwell is one of the ways we try to live that belief.
Beyond our founded organizations, Longhorn Law Firm is proud to support and participate in initiatives across Texas and New Mexico that share our commitment to community.
Supporting programs that match young people with mentors who believe in them. Investing in the next generation means investing time, not just dollars — and we show up where the work happens.
Partnering with health-focused organizations to raise awareness, fund screenings, and bring care to people who need it. Health equity is a community responsibility, not just a medical one.
Working with wellness initiatives that bring physical, mental, and emotional health resources into communities that don't always have easy access to them.
Supporting nonprofits doing the hard, unglamorous work that holds communities together — food security, housing, youth services, recovery, and more.
Showing up at events, fundraisers, races, and gatherings across Texas and New Mexico. Sometimes the most meaningful thing a firm can do is just be present in the places its clients live.
Backing initiatives that connect physical activity with mental wellness — because the people we represent often need both, and a stronger community provides both.
Whether we're advocating for an injured client or supporting a local wellness or youth initiative, our goal remains the same: to help people move forward stronger than before.
Whether you're looking to support our nonprofit, join a run, attend a Dreamwell event, or partner with us on a community initiative — we'd love to hear from you.
