About this office
The Albuquerque office is the principal office of The Longhorn Law Firm and the home for managing attorney Shawn Barnett. Shawn is licensed to practice law in New Mexico and admitted to federal courts in the Western District of Texas. The Albuquerque office handles all New Mexico-based cases directly, and serves as the operational center for the firm's dual-state practice across TX and NM.
Why work with this office
Cases governed by New Mexico law — including the powerful NM pure comparative fault rule (Scott v. Rizzo), the 3-year statute of limitations, the NM Tort Claims Act 90-day notice requirement, and the Romero v. Byers value-of-life damages framework for wrongful death — are handled out of the Albuquerque office. New Mexico is generally more plaintiff-friendly than Texas in several important dimensions, and Shawn's New Mexico license gives clients direct access to that legal advantage.
